Philosophy of Education
As a theatre educator with licensure in English Language Arts, TESOL, and Special Education, I believe the classroom, whether academic or artistic, should be a brave space where students are encouraged to take risks, discover their voices, and explore their humanity. I approach education as a transformative experience rooted in inclusivity, creativity, and empowerment.
Theatre is not just a performance art; it is a vehicle for empathy, expression, collaboration, and critical thinking. I believe every student, regardless of background, ability, or language proficiency, deserves access to the confidence-building, identity-affirming, and community-centered experience of theatre. My goal is to nurture students’ individual talents while equipping them with the social-emotional and communication skills that extend far beyond the stage.
My background in English Language Arts enhances my approach to script analysis, character development, and dramaturgy, helping students engage deeply with texts and storytelling. My TESOL training enables me to differentiate instruction and make performance accessible to English learners through multimodal strategies. As a Special Educator, I prioritize universal design, sensory-aware practices, and adaptive performance techniques that honor neurodiversity and varied learning profiles.
In every rehearsal, lesson, and performance, I strive to create an environment that values collaboration over competition, effort over perfection, and authenticity over conformity. I believe theatre education should empower students to advocate for themselves, for others, and for justice through the stories they tell and the voices they develop.
Ultimately, my mission is to cultivate not only skilled performers but compassionate, confident, and courageous human beings.
